BETA BETA was an updated OOPL, conceived in 1975. Beta is based on SIMULA, and indeed, Kristen Nygaard, one of the original developers of SIMULA, is one of the developers of BETA. The team includes Bent Bruun Kristensen, Birger Møller-Pedersen, Ole Lehrmann Madsen, and Kristen Nygaard. Like SIMULA, Eiffel, and C++, BETA is strongly typed. BETA's unique facet is the class abstraction called the "pattern," which the designers call the "ultimate abstraction." Subpatterns, virtual patterns, and pattern variables, along with patterns, can be manipulated as objects in BETA. BETA follows DELTA, which was another OOPL developed by Nygaard as a successor to SIMULA. |
